Dado Bit vs Jointer Bit – How to Choose the Right Router Bit

Compare the core differences between dado bits and jointer bits in function

Many woodworkers confuse dado bits and jointer bits, but their core functions are completely different. Dado bits focus on groove cutting, used to open flat grooves on flat boards for embedding and fixing other panels.

Jointer bits focus on edge splicing. They process interlocking tenons on the edge of wood boards to splice two separate panels into one whole board. Dado bits make grooves, while jointer bits make joints.

For cabinet frame assembly, shelf installation and mortise groove processing, choose dado bits. For floor splicing, large panel widening and seamless board joining, choose jointer bits. Matching the correct cutter can improve processing accuracy and finished product quality significantly.
