Core installation specifications to prevent router bit vibration and breakage
Incorrect router bit installation is the main cause of tool chattering, unstable cutting and sudden breakage. Mastering standardized installation steps is the core of safe woodworking router operation, suitable for all types of grooving, engraving and trimming router bits.
Always cut off the power and unplug the equipment before installing or adjusting the cutting depth of router bits, which is the most basic safety rule. Never operate the machine with power connected to avoid accidental startup injuries.
For insertion depth, do not tighten the collet when the shank is fully seated. Insert the bit until the shank touches the collet bottom, then withdraw it 3.2mm to 6.4mm before tightening. Ensure at least 19mm of the shank is wrapped in the collet; replace short-shank bits if the clamping length is insufficient.
Finally, check the bearing flexibility and carbide blade balance. The bearing should rotate smoothly with uniform resistance, and the carbide wings on both sides must be consistent in thickness. Standard installation effectively avoids vibration and tool damage during high-speed operation.
